Cashions Eat Place Restaurant Washington Dc

The Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle neighborhoods are filled with a variety of restaurants from casual to fine dining and any sort of ethnic cuisine you can think of. Cashion’s Eat Place offers a menu of American Fusion food . They offer dinner, brunch and an “after dark” menu. The latter menu consists of old pub favorites with a bit of a twist. The menu changes seasonally, so the ingredients comprising your meal are at their peak for the season.

My personal experience at Cashion’s was during their weekend brunch. The make classic  breakfast items and put a special Cashion’s spin on them. I enjoyed the “Sammy’s Scrapple” with biscuits a poached egg(my request, typically served with scrambled eggs) with white gravy and country potatoes. This was not your typical factory processed scrapple. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the combination of herbs was superior. The biscuit was flaky and buttery and the classic white gravy had just the right amount of richness and texture as opposed to the heaviness of it’s southern prototype. My friend enjoyed the “Sarah’s Cornmeal Waffle” with pecan butter and berries, and of course I had to try a bit. The texture of the cornmeal waffle was light and not dense as you would think with such a heavy flour, and the nuttiness of the pecan butter was the perfect compliment to the natural sweetness of the corn waffle. Paired with mimosas, this meal was the ideal way to spend an early Sunday afternoon. The decor is sleek and contemporary yet warm. I would feel comfortable wearing a cocktail dress or a pair of jeans to this restaurant.

Cashion’s Eat Place is located at 1819 Columbia Rd, just past the intersection of 18th Street and Columbia Road in the heart of Adam’s Morgan. You should expect to spend  $75+ per person for dinner, dessert and a cocktail if you wish. If you are having brunch expect to spend $20+. The atmosphere is great and so is the food. I highly suggest you dine here!

Enjoy!

The Scoop: Dining at Cashion's Eat Place is kind of like pulling up a chair to the most awesome dinner party in the world. Except way better because here you'll find one of the most friendly and knowledgable waitstaffs around, plus food that will make you think, "Dang, why am I not best friends with chefs on the reg?" Yes, the tutelage of Ann Cashion is strong, as this place hasn't missed a beat (or rather an appetizer, main course, dessert or drink) since current owners Justin Abad and John and George Manolatas took over in 2007. "I learned to cook under Ann," said John, who doubles as co-owner and head chef, and my-oh-my does it show. In other words, mind-blowing meals are guaranteed.

Scout Finds: When we asked the owners to describe the food served at Cashion's, they responded with "aggressively seasonal, farmer-first, modern American with a Mediterranean twist." To give you a better idea of what that means, Justin gave an apt example, "If you were to have called us at 10 a.m. this morning, we probably wouldn't have known what we'd be serving tonight." John added, "That's because we work around what's the most fresh. We wait until we get a call from the farmer." And while the top-quality ingredients are definitely important, it's John's creative culinary mind that makes meals here magical. "We try to change the menu every day because it adds to the experience," said John. "It keeps us and our guests engaged," added Justin. And it keeps us coming back for more...and more...and more...

And it's what's kept the owners and so much of the staff around. While John says he and his brother George, who's in charge of the cocktail menu, have always been interested in food due to spending much of their childhood growing up in a foodie family in Greece ("We were drinking wine at the age of six," John half-joked), it was the atmosphere at Cashion's that made them want to turn it into a career. Justin was similarly enchanted by Cashion's when he first started there as a server in the early part of the last decade. "I can't think of a better way to make a living," he said. "I get to throw a dinner party for my friends every night." We're so happy the feeling is mutual.
